Even Online, the GFOA Annual Conference is an Event You Don’t Want to Miss

Every year, a variety of financial management companies come together to share ideas, discuss new research, enjoy networking, and receive up-to-date training at the annual GFOA Conference. GFOA Conference

Maybe you have had the privilege of attending before, or perhaps this year will be your first. Either way, valuable opportunities await you at what is–for now–the GFOA Virtual Conference 2020.

This year, as we all know, it’s not possible to have the 114th annual conference as originally planned. But that doesn’t mean the conference won’t go on. Instead, it will be held virtually…and we are more excited than ever to participate. Regardless of how we get together, we are looking forward to making connections and focusing on the future.

What to expect from the 2020 GFOA conference

As in years past, the 2020 GFOA Conference will feature GFOA’s annual business meeting, including approximately 40 concurrent sessions with interactive Q&A sessions with subject matter experts. In addition, there will be ample opportunities to engage with exhibitors and sponsors. As a bonus, all attendees will receive access to recordings of sessions to view at a later date, allowing them the best opportunity to receive critical education on a variety of topics.

GFOA Virtual Conference 2020 registration

GFOA Conference sessions are set to begin on May 18th, started by a kick-off event and continuing with multiple sessions until June 26th.

How to “attend” the GFOA Conference

Technical requirements:  The only thing required to attend is an internet connection. Be sure to test your browser with a link posted on gfoa.org prior to the session date to ensure you can benefit from the entire experience.

Choosing sessions: After you’ve registered, choose the sessions you want to attend. The sessions will be streamed between May 18–June 26, 2020 and will feature leading practitioners, recognized industry experts, and researchers.

Tuning in: Once you’ve registered and chosen your sessions, all you need to do is tune in on May 18, 2020 for GFOA’s annual business meeting, followed by a keynote panel discussion on issues that are relevant, especially today. Then tune in for your sessions as scheduled.

Connecting virtually: You can still connect with experts and colleagues by asking questions, answering live polls, and chatting with presenters and participants; also engage through the event mobile app, Facebook, Twitter, or LinkedIn. You can also participate in weekly “Ask the Expert” sessions featuring public finance experts in specialized areas, interact with GFOA’s chatbot for answers to questions about the conference, and learn about the industry’s top vendors serving governments through sponsors and a virtual exhibit hall.

Remember: All GFOA Conference attendees will receive access to session recordings to view at a later date.

Don’t let social distancing keep you from learning

It’s no secret that 2020 has thrown some difficult obstacles our way. But let’s not let that halt our progress. Use this time to gain valuable training, so that when this pandemic is over, you and your government or agency can come out stronger than ever.

We are determined to keep moving and keep learning. We hope you will do the same and join us at the 2020 GFOA Virtual Conference.
