Cloud solutions for Information Technology: Take your government to the next level
As technology becomes more complex and more choices are available, it’s difficult to know what is best for your needs. This has never been truer than with the Cloud. While there is no question that the future belongs to the Cloud—and the future is now—it’s still important to make the right decision.
We believe that Microsoft Azure is the answer, and that AKA Enterprise Solutions is the right partner to help you define your strategy and help you put it into action. But how do you decide what is best for your government? We can help—with some definitions and comparisons.
What is Microsoft Azure?
Microsoft Azure is a growing collection of integrated Cloud services that developers and IT professionals use to build, deploy, and manage applications through a global network of Microsoft datacenters. Azure provides software as a service, platform as a service, and infrastructure as a service functions. Microsoft manages all hardware, infrastructure, security, and networking across all their datacenters. Users can leverage these assets to host their business applications, servers, and virtual machines without the investment of hardware components or the staff to install and maintain them.
Microsoft Commercial Cloud and Government Cloud: What’s the difference?
Commercial Cloud: These services are safe and secure but are designed for use by consumers and business enterprises who are readily prepared and are operating in the public cloud. They are typically transacting on the Internet. In many ways, the Commercial Cloud is secure enough for most government entities, but when requirements are more stringent, Microsoft offers a sovereign Government Cloud.
Government Cloud: With nearly 6 million Microsoft Government Cloud users across more than 7,000 federal, state, and local government entities, its purpose is to be the most trusted, comprehensive cloud for government. It was intentionally designed from the ground up to meet government regulations included those listed above and is the most secure cloud in existence.
Available to qualified government entities, including US federal, state, local, tribal, and territorial government entities, and other entities who handle data subject to government regulations and requirements, Government Cloud is designed to comply with even the most complex government regulations:
- DoD Impact Level 5-ready for infrastructure, platform, and productivity services (Office 365 DoD and Azure DoD).
- Azure Government FedRAMP Provisional ATO’s that include 13 services in the scope boundary—more than two times more than the nearest cloud competitor
- FedRAMP High, Moderate, and Accelerated compliance across all 3 clouds: Azure (IaaS, PaaS), O365 (SaaS) and Dynamics 365 (SaaS), the first cloud service to achieve a JAB P-ATO using the new FedRAMP Accelerated Process.
- Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy
- IRS Publication 1075
- International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR)
- Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
- Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)
|Commercial Cloud||Government Cloud|
|Often focused on public Internet services||Often focused on private Intranet services|
|Allows multi-tenancy with many customers from many industries||Allows multi-tenancy with specific customers from government entities only|
|Data storage is controllable but can be located in other geographies||Data storage is controllable and is only located in the specific region or country (sovereign)|
|Security and compliance accreditation is focused on end user (individual) and corporate security||Security and compliance accreditation is focused on government clearance and country protection/isolation|
|All Azure services are available across IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS, and interoperate effectively||Most Azure services are across IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS, but not all interoperate by design|
