Video: AKA’s NYC Tech for Social Impact Day – Keynote and Panel Sessions
On January 22, 2019 at the Microsoft Conference Center in New York City, AKA hosted an educational, in-person event that brought together non-profit organization and Microsoft leaders to share how technology is a powerful tool in helping to solve the world’s most challenging problems. The afternoon was kicked off with a keynote address by Justin Spelhaug, the General Manager of Microsoft’s Tech for Social Impact group, and was followed by three interactive panels moderated by Katie Leonberger, President & CEO of CRE.
Keynote Address: Technology and Social Impact
As a company at the forefront of digital transformation, Microsoft is committed to bringing the benefits of technology to all. When we step back and look at challenges facing non-profits, they struggle with the lack of technical capacity, scarcity of resources, lack of partners, and few technology solutions customized for their environment. Microsoft’s commitment is to help non-profits leverage technology for greater impact through Tech for Social Impact (TSI).
Harnessing the Power of Data: How to Help Your Non-Profit Provide Evidence-Based Outcomes and Manage Resources, Funding, and Reporting to Better Support the People You Serve
Outcomes are the ultimate measuring stick for non-profits. If they cannot be measured, there is no way to determine the success of a program or initiative. That can lead to a decline in service and loss of funding. How can you cost-effectively manage large amounts of data to gain critical, actionable insights that create a real impact on the people you serve?
Panel: Kyle Turk, IT Director at LifeWorks; Erica Adams, Managing Director of Strategic Relationships at The Commit Partnership; Ashwina Kirpalani, Managing Director of Analytics at The Commit Partnership; Ernest Ostro, Director of Applications at International Rescue Committee; Justin Spelhaug, General Manager of Microsoft’s Tech for Social Impact group; and Lori Kunick, Solution Architect at AKA Enterprise Solutions, moderated by Katie Leonberger, President & CEO of CRE.
To Protect and Serve: How Non-Profits Can Gain and Maintain the Trust of Beneficiaries, Donors, and Volunteers by Guarding Their Information Against Any Threat or Disaster
Studies show that 43% of organizations that lose a significant amount of data immediately shut down and never open back up again. Your non-profit organization and the people you serve can’t afford to take that risk. Are you prepared to protect the data that supports what you do from the next disaster—natural or otherwise?
Panel: Vish Jain, VP of IT at Americares; John Ryan Brooks, Director of Systems at Doctors Without Borders/ Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF); Sonia Dua, Information Security Manager at Doctors Without Borders/ Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF); Tim Walton, Partner Technology Specialist at Microsoft; and Greg Inks, Cloud Practice Lead at AKA Enterprise Solutions; moderated by Katie Leonberger, President & CEO of CRE.
Making Connections that Serve Your Mission: How Non-Profits Can Break Down Barriers to Better Support Donors, Volunteers, and Beneficiaries
A non-profit cannot survive without those who support it. Employees, donors, and volunteers are the backbone of your organization—and part of your mission is to take care of them. How do you make sure everyone is on the same page, clearing the path for effective communication and collaboration across the board? Are your front and back office supporting your mission and contributing to positive outcomes?
Panel: Kevin Gilrain, Senior Vice President of Human Resources at Americares; Rob Bushway, Director of Application Architecture at Americares; Rochelle Eichner, Regional Lead, Americas, Tech for Social Impact at Microsoft; and Jim Bretschneider, Executive Vice President of Solutions at AKA Enterprise Solutions; moderated by Katie Leonberger, President & CEO of CRE.
