Spotlight On… New Hires at AKA!

For our latest Employee Spotlight, we interviewed some of our new employees from the end of 2019. Learn a little more about these additions to our team and what attracted them to AKA below!

What is your name?

  Matthew

What is your title?

  Functional Solution Architect

When did you start at AKA?

  August 2019

What attracted you to an opportunity with AKA?

I knew several people from the Dynamics community that worked here and gave the company high marks. The size: Think “Goldilocks”. Not too big, not too small, just right! The founders of the company are still leading it and have had wonderful growth every year. The fact that AKA is owned by its founders meant that business decisions made would be made for the right reasons since we are not accountable to venture capital, shareholders or a parent corporation.

Can you share a rewarding experience from your time at AKA?

The most rewarding experience I have had here EASILY is the project team I worked with on my first project. I have been in the CRM space almost a decade and have been a member of many great teams and worked with many great individuals. That said, my first project team at AKA has been the best I have ever worked with. Everyone was willing to learn from each other, respectfully challenge one another, help, trust and put in the extra effort when needed. To quote our project’s PM “If we could bottle what we have here and sell it, we would be millionaires”. I can only hope ALL the people at AKA are half as wonderful to work with.

What is the best part about working for AKA?

This is a place I felt I could have an impact not only on our clients, but the direction, process and initiatives of the company. I am trusted and given the autonomy to make the right choice for our clients yet have access to a network of people happy to assist.

What three words would you use to describe our culture?

  Helpful. Independence. Growth.

Can you tell us an interesting fact about yourself?

I rode a bicycle roughly 3,300 miles from Oregon to North Carolina with my best friend when I was 21. We packed everything we needed on our bikes and camped along the way. It was a journey that taught me about the kindness of humanity, true friendship and how little we really need to be happy. I would recommend it to anyone!

What is your name?

  Paula

What is your title?

  Resource Manager

When did you start at AKA?

  October 2019

What attracted you to an opportunity with AKA?

When I started my job search, I knew I wanted to be somewhere that promoted a healthy work/life balance. I was pleasantly surprised when one of the first sentences I read in AKA’s career section called out understanding that there is life outside of work. As I continued reading, the benefits just kept going! As I did a deeper dive and searched on Glassdoor for reviews, I found out that they back up what they advertise. I found this so refreshing! So many times, companies will look great on paper, but not in real life, so to read the positive reviews from employees, made me realize, this was a place I wanted to be.

Can you share a rewarding experience from your time at AKA?

Any time someone thanks me, I find it very rewarding. So many times, in previous experiences people just expect you to do certain things, because that’s what you’re supposed to do. They don’t take into consideration what you might have on your plate. So, to have individuals take time out of their day to thank me for my assistance, I find that very rewarding. Everyone is busy and it’s so easy to think, “well they’re doing their job, why should I thank them,” but sometimes that simple gesture makes all the difference.

What is the best part about working for AKA?

I would have to say the teamwork! Everyone I’ve encountered has been extremely helpful and they really want to help you grow. When you reach out with a question or need help, they don’t act like you’re inconveniencing them. That is definitely not something you find everywhere!

What three words would you use to describe our culture?

  Collaborative. Growth. Exciting.

Can you tell us an interesting fact about yourself?

I tend to go with not being able to swim, but it’s becoming more of a sad fact instead of interesting, hah!

What is your name?

  Jay

What is your title?

  Senior Technical Consultant

When did you start at AKA?

  March 2019

What attracted you to an opportunity with AKA?

I wanted to be a part of a D365/Azure focused organization where I would be able to work on the latest and greatest technologies.

Can you share a rewarding experience from your time at AKA?

Getting an opportunity to be a part of complex project from day one where everyone, even outside your team, is willing to help.

What is the best part about working for AKA?

AKA has a unique approach to performance management – Catalytic Coaching. Being new to the consulting world, I wasn’t sure how performance management would work, and I had a bit of nervousness around it. Catalytic Coaching put me at ease, as the focus of it is setting up career goals to be a successful professional and discussing it with your coach as to how to achieve those goals.

What three words would you use to describe our culture?

  Innovative. Respect. High performance.

Can you tell us an interesting fact about yourself?

I eat only dinner (yes, one meal in a day). For rest of the day, I drink 3-5 juices like greens, fruits, carrots, etc., the rest of the day. Ever since I started juicing, I feel super energetic, positive and lively.
