Look Ahead! The Future is Not Behind You
We have always had the need to report. In the past, whether it was a document, letter, book, or recording, our reports looked back.

Rarely does an application have all of the look and feel that a company requires right out of the box. One thing I like to see from an application is what tool set is required when I need to make modifications to enhance the functionality for my company. Does the application come with the proper tools? Do I have to leave the application to use the tool set? What is the effect on upgrades? I classify ‘modifications’ as changes that can be made using the application tool set and those modifications do not need updating for each version upgrade. I classify ‘software development’ as having to go outside of the application tool set to enable the application to do something it will not do without additional code. This usually does require an update to the code, (or at least a tweak), when the application is upgraded.
It is generally the responsibility of the Chief Operating Officer to set overall goals for the organization and more specific goals for the individual teams and then to measure the actual progress against those goals. The COO is therefore the key individual to ensure that there are adequate systems in place to track all of the company’s important data and to disseminate that information to the entire team. Unfortunately, many COOs focus a great deal on the former and not enough on the latter. (Continue reading)
Growing interstate commerce and budget deficits are motivating states to change existing laws to increase business’ sales tax obligations. Legislation across the country is making it more difficult for businesses to avoid sales tax collection.
While in the rest of the world June 30th signifies the middle of the calendar year, it actually represents Microsoft’s fiscal year end. And that usually means lots of business dealings in the Microsoft Dynamics world as customers take advantage of Microsoft’s and its partners’ desire to close the year strong (with software promotions!) But from a technology standpoint, it also gives us the opportunity to reflect back on the previous year to see what we and Microsoft have accomplished together to provide the best tools to enable companies and organizations to dramatically improve their profitability and efficiency.
In recent work with a client where they learned to automatically attach a file through code, in Dynamics AX 2012, the customer also wanted to have the report saved as PDF when it was printing the report.
Amalfi Semiconductor pioneered high-performance radio frequency (RF) semiconductors for the cellular handset market based on standard, low-cost complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS) technology. The company was growing quickly and needed more financial and manufacturing management capabilities than their current systems could provide. After a rapid Microsoft Dynamics GP implementation (6 weeks!) the company has a solution that takes advantage of purchasing controls to support regulatory compliance. In addition, executives, operations employees, and finance managers now have the insight and control they need to help the company reach its growth goals.
When it comes to workplace injury and illness incidents, especially in manufacturing and production industries, it is important to keep a complete record of all data related to the injury. This is important for both legal and regulatory purposes, for example – OSHA compliance. The great thing about AX 2012 is that it allows you to decide which modules to use and whether or not to limit functionalities available in the system. One of the features that will always be there waiting for you is the Injury and Illness incident form, to track an injury or illness of an employee, including general case information, such as, when the incident occurred, and when and who reported it.
Ever wanted to search for an exact label using the Label search form without having to click the “…” in a property window? If not, then you probably haven’t worked with custom SSRS reports too often.
Software selection can be a long, arduous, and painful process or it can be fast, informative and fun. It’s your choice (see our post 5 reasons not to use RFP’s). At AKA we prefer the latter, and I must say we have a pretty good track record of selecting software providers whose products we not only sell to our clients but also use successfully in house. How do we do it? We like to focus on 6 criteria that are pretty easy to evaluate:
